The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) is threatening to ban BlackBerry services. This is because BlackBerry uses centralized processing in several secure Network Operations Centers around the world with encrypted connections, meaning the U.A.E. can't eavesdrop.

The U.A.E. worries that because of jurisdictional issues, its courts couldn't compel RIM to turn over secure data from its servers, which are outside the U.A.E. even in a national-security situation, a person familiar with the situation said.-The Wall Street Journal
